Latest News Hi from NYC! June 2009 Hello everyone and hope that you're all doing well. Writing here from my new 'home' NYC! As many of you know, I earned a much sought after publishing deal with very respected publishers here. It's been very exciting and I am working on new material and meeting other writers and musicians. I have already recorded two new songs with Dan Fadel, member of the terrific band and another Bob Harris fave, Hazy Malaze, that I'm absolutely thrilled with. It's taken a little while getting myself all settled plus all the work promoting Clouds with Silver, which I did all myself, was a lot of hard work but as ever I'll keep you posted on my news. My song 'When You Come Home' is featured on the new Atom Sounds: One CD which showcases the music of ex students and those in particular who have gained success and professional acclaim. Details here: Awhile ago I provided harmonies on a terrific song 'When Your Lips Move' by Americana songwriter and artist Quiet Loner. The instrumentation is provided by my fantastic steel player Alan Cook. Excitingly, it will be track 3 on What's Kickin Vol 4 which is released by Stovepony Records. These are the CD's of the What's Cookin' night in London. The CD will come out June 17th and has national distribution through Cargo - which means it should be in shops and on i-tunes etc. They usually do a great job on promotion and previous CDs have had radio play on Radio 2. Big Feature and Interview in Acoustic Magazine Lisa is featured in the February issue of ‘Acoustic Magazine’ – the UK’s number 1 dedicated acoustic guitar magazine. Alongside features on Bryan Adams and Seasick Steve, Lisa discusses her songwriting, playing, love of acoustic guitars and tips on being an independent artist. Artist to watch 2008 at Acoustic Café Acoustic Café, radio’s best international showcase for acoustic music, has made Lisa their latest G Base/One To Watch Artist for ’08. The show is syndicated to more than 75 Commercial and Noncommercial radio stations across the US. Aired the week 15/12/08-22/12/08 the track ‘Here Alone’ was played next to respected songwriters such as Rodney Crowell, Ray LaMontagne, Randy Newman, Loudon Wainwright III, Ani Difranco and Mary Chapin Carpenter. Clouds with Silver has just received more excellent reviews, 4 stars in national UK magazine, Rock 'n' Reel, 8 out of 10 at Americana UK and also look out for the Dec issue of Maverick magazine where there is a two page feature and interview. It is available from November 20th in all UK local newsagents, WH Smiths, HMV stores or Barnes & Nobles stores in America. October – ‘Here Alone’ played on Bob Harris’s Radio 2 Show and Glowing Press There was even more airplay for the album when Bob Harris played ‘Here Alone’ on his October 4^th and described Lisa as one of the show’s ‘absolute favourites’. There have also been more glowing press reviews including the latest Autumn/Winter issue of Propergranda magazine and November’s Country Music People Magazine (4 stars). The song 'Live Your Life' was played and Bob described the album as 'a beautiful album..it really is'. August – ‘Call Me’ played on Bob Harris’s BBC Radio 2 Show ‘Call Me’ from ‘Clouds with Silver’ was played on Bob Harris’s BBC Radio 2 show on Saturday August 9^th. The track was played in the third hour after Jakob Dylan Brand new album ‘Clouds with Silver’ now on iTunes The brand new album ‘Clouds with Silver’ is now on iTunes! The station are also going to be running a report (using an interview I did with them earlier) on BBC Norfolk Introducing Friday August 15 7-8pm. July - Brand New album ‘Clouds with Silver’ Lisa’s third album ‘Clouds with Silver’ will be out through Proper Distribution mid September and and it has already gained a glowing review at Fish Records where it is also available. Featuring 11 songs all written and performed by Lisa, most of the album was recorded in New York City and co-produced with talented and respected multi-instrumentalist and producer Brad Albetta (Martha Wainwright, Teddy Thompson). July 7th – Lisa on Alive with Clive TV show Alive with Clive TV appearance. Lisa was recently interviewed and played live on Alive With Clive, a show promoting positivity and making the world a better place. For those in the White Plains area of New York, the appearance is on July 7^th. Clive will be releasing a compilation CD featuring artists that have appeared on his program with proceeds going towards the fight against AIDS in South Africa, his hometown. From Lisa’s blog in the Slipstream newsletter…Just back in the UK after my wonderful and productive time in New York. My gig at the Living Room went so well, a really good and full audience (thanks to those of you who came out), I had a cool photo shoot, did a cable TV interview and show and my new recording in Brooklyn is done! Am so happy with how it's sounding and feel so excited about this new record. Although it is mostly me and my acoustic, I mostly played live too, I have some amazing players on there too. More details on it here soon! May 08 - Dragonfly featured in cool indie movie Dragonfly features in new short indie movie ‘Seized’ filmed in LA. It has just done really well at a film festival there and is going to be pitched to the BBC too. Lisa was made a finalist in an international music video competition. After her promo video 'Why' (picture below) made the top 25 of the pop section, 'Call Me' went on to become one of the final 5 and received a huge number of votes and views. Sadly Lisa was unable to make the prize winning trip to Austin to play at the industry showcase due to illnes but thanks so much to everyone who voted and it was quite incredible to make the final 5 and receive overwhelming votes. More Radio 2 Airplay Oct 07 Lisa was played again on BBC Radio 2 Bob Harris's Show. Steve Lamacq played one of her live favourites 'Wildfire' from ‘Lost Again’ and said that Bob regarded her as one of the UK's finest singer-songwriters!’ Back to New York City Lisa returned yet again to New York City for shows at some of NYC’s most prestigious acoustic venues. She also played the respected Rockwood Music Hall (picture below by Paul Syznol) and headlined at the lovely Caffe Vivaldi in Greenwich Village. Thanks again to those who came along to the shows and bought CDs. During this trip, ‘Fell on Hard Times’ again received airplay on Bob Harris’s Radio 2 show and has become one of the most played tracks on his Saturday show. April Shows in Manchester: Through April Lisa played shows in and around Manchester. These included the Winelight Club at Bury Met, Taurus and Trof 2 in the Northern Quarter. Bob Harris Presents..Americana at The Borderline February 4th - Lisa was personally asked to be the very special guest at the recent Bob Harris Presents..Americana night at London's Borderline. April 4th - Continuing the spring tour, Lisa supported Nashville based singer-songwriter Jeff Black at The Maze, Nottingham. March 29th - Lisa, with Alan Cook on steel, dobro and guitar, opened for Canadian country star Corb Lund at Leicester's Musician. March 23rd - After returning from the Netherlands dates, Lisa played Manchester's Night and Day. Joined by Anna Kashfi's James Youngjohns on violin, the gig earned an excellent live review at Americana UK. To read the review, go to http://www.americana-uk.com London’s Borderline Kicks off Spring Tour Lisa kicked off her tour with a return to London's prestigious Borderline on Monday March 6th. She opened for singer-songwriter and classic blues-orientated guitarist Snowy White. Snowy's timeless song 'Bird of Paradise', became an international hit and he has also played with Pink Floyd, Peter Green and Thin Lizzy. After the Borderline, Lisa did dates at Aldershot West End Arts Centre, Canterbury Gulbenkian Theatre and Bristol Folkhouse as a special guest on tour with highly regarded singer-songwriter Keith James.
